Best Budget Laptops For Kodi In 2021

When you think of Kodi you usually think of android boxes for using Kodi. Yes, it is true Kodi can be used on any android device and android boxes are the most popular choice. But Kodi was originally made for the PC and more specifically to be used on the Linux Software. Kodi is available on Linux, OSX, Windows, iOS and Android meaning you have tons of options for streaming.

Today I am going to list off the best laptops for Kodi. You don’t need a very powerful device for Kodi as you may already know since most Android boxes don’t have top of the line specs. But if you plan on using your laptop for anything else besides Kodi it may be wise to spend a little more.

So without further ado let’s start reviewing some Chromebooks

Samsung 11.6 Chromebook

Before I get started explaining everything that is good about this laptop I want to state that any Chromebook should run Kodi perfectly fine. This is solely my recommendation for which brand of Chromebook you should buy but not the only Chromebook out there that does the job.

  • 11. 6″ 1366 x 768 HD resolution display with LED backlight
  • Intel Celeron Processor N3060
  • 4GB system memory, 32GB eMMC flash memory
  • Intel HD Graphics 400, Bluetooth 4. 0 interface Syncs with compatible devices, 1 USB 3. 0 port maximizes the latest high-speed devices, HDMI output expands your viewing options,wireless-ac (867 Mbps), Wireless-AC, webcam
  • Google Chrome OS

Already comparing specs of the Samsung Chromebook to any common android box you can find on amazon proves how valuable a Chromebook is for Kodi. The ram is double what you usually would get with an android box and the storage is more than double what a budget android box would come with. Besides being a computer and being able to do other things with the device, in practicality, a Chromebook blows an android box out of the water any day.

The screen is small but that is expected for a Chromebook as it is basically a smaller version of a laptop. This can be unfortunate if you don’t plan on using the HDMI port of the Chromebook for TV display.

You can hook devices up to the Chromebook via Bluetooth which allows you to control the interface with a remote control or even your smartphone.

The operating system that comes preinstalled on the Samsung Chromebook or any Chromebook for that matter is the Chrome Os. Chrome Os is compatible with some windows apps and all android apps, meaning you can install Kodi on your Chromebook directly from the Google Playstore.

What I like

There’s not much not to like about this little laptop. It does what it is supposed to do and surpasses the majority of basic budget android boxes out there and allows you to do much more. I would use this laptop for my everyday needs and for streaming Kodi.

What I don’t Like

I’m not a big fan of the screen size but this is just a given. A standard tablet screen size is 10″ while the Chromebook’s screen size is 11.5.  I don’t find this sufficient enough for a laptop device but I can make do by using the HDMI port and plugging the laptop into my TV.

Would I Use This Device?

Absolutely, this device does everything and more and can run Kodi perfectly fine. This is definitely a no brainer if you are looking for a budget laptop and a device to run Kodi on. If you are interested in purchasing the Samsung Chromebook you can check the price on amazon here

When Comparing Lenovo’s Chromebook to the Samsung Chromebook they are pretty much on par in the specs department. The only one up that Lenovo seems to have is that it can convert from a tablet to a laptop. This feature allows you to increase the portability of your device when you are on the go. This laptop blows most android boxes out of the water as well, you just have to decide if you would like to spend a little more money.

What I like

I like the feature that allows me to convert the laptop into a tablet. If I were to take this device out of my home at least I know that I do not need a mouse or anything else to use this device. I also find the design to be nice and sleek which is definitely in my department of taste.

What I Don’t Like

As I mentioned before with the Samsung Chromebook and now with this one as well as the screen size is a little small for my taste. This device will likely remain plugged into a TV if I were to stream Kodi on this Chromebook.

Would I Use This Device?

Yes, this device suits basically all my at-home needs. I probably wouldn’t watch Kodi directly from the screen but rather have it plugged directly to my TV VIA HDMI.

Asus Chromebook C523

  • Intel Celeron N3350 processor
  • 4 GB of DDR3 ram
  • 15.6-inch LED with 1,366 x 768 pixels or full HD anti-glare display (optional touch)
  • 32 GB or 64 GB eMMC internal storage, as well as microSD and multi-format card support
  • HD webcam
  • WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2×2) and Bluetooth 4.0
  • 3.5 mm audio jack, 2 x USB 3.1 Type-A, 2 x USB 3.0 Type-C (display and power delivery support)
  • 2-cell Polymer battery that provides up to 10 hours of autonomy

These specs are on par with the other Chromebooks I’ve mentioned so far but with a couple of differences. The screen size that comes with the Asus Chromebook ranges from 14″ to 15.6″ you can select this when purchasing. Also, the storage of the device can be doubled to 64 GB if you would like to pay a little more. ( $20 difference.)

What I Like

I like that the laptop comes with options before purchasing. I have the option to purchase the Chromebook with a 14 inch or 15.6-inch screen. I also like being able to double the memory size, I would rather purchase the device with 64 GB than 32.

What I Don’t Like

I’m not a big fan of the price, as it ranges from $200 -$300 depending on where you buy it. I find getting close to $300 I’d rather purchase an android box such as the Nvidia Shield since I don’t have a use for another laptop in my home.

Would I Use This Device?

Absolutely I would. This device is much more suited for someone that needs a budget laptop and not just a device to watch Kodi on. The screen size speaks for itself and is on par with most basic model laptops these days.

Any Chromebook will suffice for running and streaming TV shows on Kodi. The ones I’ve listed above are in opinion the best laptops for Kodi. They are budget-wise and extremely compact. They are also speedy little devices and allow you to do much more than just watch Kodi.
